I started 5thGenCFO to help business owners and CFOs become better. My career passion is business, and I enjoy learning about it and teaching it to others. I also enjoy the sense of accomplishment that comes from achieving success, including helping clients realize their goals. I have always enjoyed working with cross-functional teams of leaders and advisors to achieve meaningful, strategic objectives. At 5thGenCFO, I’ve collected a team of experts who share my passions, and we stand ready to help your business. —Doug Ryan, Founder

Our Philosophy

Owners Aren’t (Usually) Accountants — Small business owners pursue their passion and build brands that reflect their style and life experiences. Accounting and financial reporting come last, after taxes. Our team of financial professionals are uniquely experienced to explain your operations to potential buyers, investment bankers, traditional bankers, auditors, partners, and other stakeholders. We can write business plans, prepare Confidential Information Memorandums, and lead or respond to due diligence efforts.

CFOs Learn on the Job — It’s an occupational hazard, CFOs and CAOs bring their focused money-raising or accounting backgrounds with them when they are elevated to the Chief Financial Officer or Chief Accounting Officer role. As for the rest of their expansive responsibilities, they must learn those on the job. Working with CFOs and CAOs, we execute discrete, well-defined projects. Our team can help you close the books faster, prepare a world-class monthly reporting package, and insightfully present your data to the myriad stakeholders you serve.

Grow or Die — Your business is either caught in a virtuous circle or a vicious cycle—never both and rarely neither. If it isn’t growing, then it is losing market share or stagnating—precursors to a downward spiral if conditions don’t change. Sometimes the people most committed are too optimistic to see reality until their business is “circling the drain.” Break out of linear thinking patterns that hold you hostage to the task at hand. You have access to good people, so utilize them! You can work on more than one initiative at once provided you have the resources. 5thGenCFO
